Does the trade war benefit European plastic enterprises?

        2019-10-25 09:52:36
The trade war between China and the United States is creating additional opportunities for European exporters of plastics, plastic products and materials in these two key markets, because both sides impose protective tariffs on each other.
The United States accused China of misconduct in intellectual property rights, industrial subsidies and market access, and the negotiation between the two sides reached a deadlock. At the same time, the United States imposed tariffs of 10% on Chinese goods, while China imposed tariffs of 10% and 5% on goods imported from the United States.
Both sides have announced that these latest tariffs will be implemented in two stages, starting from September 1 and December 15.
From September 1, 2019, the tariffs imposed by the United States on Chinese plastic products came into effect, including bathroom equipment, tableware, furniture, nursing products, fasteners, laminated paper, clothing, footwear, jewelry and sanitary products. Paraffin and other chemicals are also on the list.
In December 15, plastic office supplies, school supplies, decorations, water beds, air mattress, other footwear, high chairs, toys and hair accessories will also be listed.
China's retaliatory tariffs on American exports are more concentrated in the field of basic plastic materials.
Beijing's tariff will include a 5% tariff on plastic moulds made in the United States, such as PVC, plastic monofilament, strip, bar and profile, plastic pipe, hose, pipe, and PVC board, film, foil and flat strip. These tariffs will come into effect in early September.
Flexible tariffs of 5% and 10% are applicable to plastic consumer goods made in the United States, including sanitary wares, bags and furniture, suitcases and some footwear.
In December 15, China will impose a 10% tariff on American plastic sanitary wares, tableware, window boards, clothing and sculptures.
The tariff in December will also include a 5% tariff on plastic covers, flowers, doors, window frames, boots and buttons, and a 10% tariff on plastic moulds and calender made in the United States.
Dezan Shira & Associates, an Asian business consultant headquartered in Hong Kong, said that the trade war was weakening the export competitiveness of the United States.
The strategy consulting company said in a statement: "The new tariff accounts for about 10% of the total bilateral trade between China and the United States, this means that another $75 billion will be subject to new or extra tariffs, which is a heavy burden for American suppliers of Chinese enterprises."
Will the Chinese and American governments reach an agreement on trade disputes and cancel these tariffs? According to the latest news, the Sino-US negotiation will be postponed to October. The Chinese government calls on the United States to create diplomatic conditions conducive to the agreement.
President Donald Trump expressed optimism about this, saying: "I think we will reach an agreement because we are working on formulating appropriate terms. We understand each other ."

The Tariff Commission of the State Council of China said: "The measures of the United States have led to the continuous escalation of Sino-US economic and trade frictions, which has seriously harmed the interests of China, the United States and other countries ."
